Environmental Policy
Our company’s foundation is built on our core values of social and environmental responsibility. We consider our impact on the local community and where possible, use local businesses.
Some of the ways we've done this
Insulation – The building is insulated above and beyond building regulations standard using Superglass’s Superwall 32 high perfermance 100mm high spec cavity wall batt in the external AND internal walls together with double layer plasterboard ceilings. This means lower heating costs for the life of the building together with improved sound insulation.
Windows – Our bedroom windows are not just double-glazed, they have acoustic glass and top-of-the-range Greenwood acoustic trickle vents to prevent unwanted external noise disturbing our guests whilst giving excellent ventilation. Sound expert Nick Dennon ran a number of computer simulations assessing how the building would react in different scenarios and on his advice we will also erect a 2m high 12k Jacksons Envriofence to prevent sound travel further.
Recycling rain water – Rather than waste all of the rainwater, we’ve fitted this upcycled barrel to act as a water butt. So we have no excuse why our plants shouldn’t always be well-watered and our cars sparklingly clean.
Electrical Vehicle Charging Point – With the government’s pledge to ban all sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, we expect more and more of our guests will want access to an EV charger in the future. Our Podpoint gives the ability to conveniently charge cars and only pay for what you use.
Wildflower Garden – Our 30m wide garden has been designed into four trellis-divided separate zones so guests can have privacy and space in a garden within a garden. Old railway sleepers provide seating amidst fragrant climbers such as Jasmine, Clematis and Wisteria; whilst wildflowers, grasses and our bug hotel create safe habitats for bees, butterflies, and ladybirds.
LED Bubs – These use 85% less electricity compared to conventional lighting.
Smart energy meters – Each flat is fitted with SMEG2 smart meters so users are aware of the amount of energy being used
Low-flow shower heads – The average 8 minute UK shower uses 60 litres of hot water. Low-flow shower heads cleverly reduce this by restricting the water flow without compromising on the shower experience. Smart!
Dual flush toilets – It makes sense to use only the water needed!
On site recycling centre – We have a purpose built area where different types of waste can be stored to promote maximum recycling
We try very hard to be paperless – instead of printing everything out, we try to store and transfer documents electronically
Recycling of waste build materials – rather that skip waste materials and those be sent to landfill, we have been using the waste brick and blocks to form the foundation of a road.
Minimising delivery miles – We ask our suppliers to send our orders as bulk deliveries from local sources rather than multiple deliveries of smaller amounts.
Minimsing transport miles – The majority of the people involved in the project – from the bricklayers, to the architect, the joiners to the site management – are local so making few miles too and from site.
Reusing bricks – we were able to use some bricks that had been leftover from a previous development in the same area. This was far better than the bricks being wasted, there were zero delivery miles and they fitted in superbly with the townhouses nextdoor.
